Clothes and Fashion

Something that I didn't think much about before I left was the clothing, fashion, and how it would be different. So I figure I could blog about it. First off, everything is a knock off; almost all name brand clothes are fake. Because they don't have big name brand stores except for in the big cities, so they have knock off clothes of every brand imaginable. And massive markets with hundreds of booths stocked with knock off clothes, sunglasses, electronics, anything. Sun glasses everyday, everywhere if they are not on your face then they are on your head. Ray Ban are extremely popular, (you can get a nice fake pair for about $5 bucks.) GAP is by far the most commonly worn clothing brand. Oakley, Tommy Hilfiger, and Hollister are also really popular. All clothing brands here have no age limits, a 75 year old man can rock on some Hollister and have no questions asked.  Nobody has heard of TOMS which was a bit of a heartbreak. Even if you have never played soccer in your life, you better be rocking a  bright neon pair of either Nike or Adidas soccer shoes.  Pants are manly; because its manly if you can bare the heat in them. The only kind of pants there are are dress pants and jeans, nothing else for at least for men. For women, you can't go out in public unless you have a full done smashing manicure. People put so much time into their nails its crazy; girls in school sit at their desk and file them just like in the movies. Tattoos are way more common and a lot more accepted by people. In general people dress up a lot more, no matter what your doing, you need to look well put together. Look are really important and a big part of the culture; people take so much pride in how they look. Everyday is like a fashion show, someone can be walking down the street in a runway outfit but be on their way to their job at a gas station. All schools have uniforms too, so during the school hours really limits what people can do. The school uniform is a special kind of sweatpants and t shirt; simply for the fact so everyone is even and equal. Just some of my observations, let me know what you think. New blog coming soon!!

Noah
